Should POWELL be renewed?

Before anyone begins judging President Nichol, let’s take a hard look at the leader of the people who will ultimately judge him: Michael Powell, Rector of the William & Mary Board of Visitors.

• Powell refuses to abstain on AOL Time Warner merger, despite his father owning $13.3 million of AOL stock, creating the largest media firm on the planet.
• Powell faces 3 million America protest against underhanded campaign to further consolidate media power in the hands of a few corporations, US Court of Appeals nixes his plan, calling it, “arbitrary and capricious.”
• Powell publicly announces that although his job in the FCC calls upon him to serve the interests of the American people, he doesn’t care what the American people think.
• Powell fines local radio station for playing a cleaned-up version of, “The Real Slim Shady.”
• Powell becomes FCC Chair and almost immediately relaxes regulations to allow Rupert Murdoch to expand his conservative news network to 10 additional affiliates.
• Powell terrorizes stations into pulling a Veterans’ Day showing of, “Saving Private Ryan” because of profanity used in the movie…slaps ABC with $1.2 million fine because three (3) people complained about, “Married by America”…kowtows to right-wing conservative organizations over Bono acceptance speech remark.

Thomas Jefferson would be ashamed if he knew this tyrant was running his alma mater’s supreme governing body. William and Mary deserves a Rector who is NOT corrupt, who weighs the will of the AMERICAN PEOPLE over the interests of huge media corporations, and who values the FIRST AMENDMENT as the lynchpin of our country’s Bill of Rights.

Should Powell be renewed by Governor Tim Kaine? We think not, but don’t take our word for it. Hell, don’t take anyone’s word for it. Google around his name, and educate yourself. You’ll quickly find that there is only one conclusion…
